October Pink Celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness

In honor of October Pink—an international month dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer and promoting early detection and timely treatment. In this regards, SOS Sahel Sudan, in partnership with the National Planning Organization and the Health Promotion Department at Kassala State Ministry of Health, organized a vibrant awareness event at the Maigoma Orphan Shelter.

🤝 A Unified Effort for Health and Hope

The event brought together a wide range of community and health stakeholders, including:

  • Representatives from Kassala State Ministry of Health
  • Health Promotion Department
  • Turkai Oncology Center
  • Representative of the Ministry’s NGO Coordination Office
  • SOS Sahel Sudan
  • National Planning Organization
  • Kassala Street Accidents Organization
  • Teachers and students from Al-Dareyeen Secondary School
  • Mothers, caregivers, and staff of Maigoma Shelter
  • Women and youth from the Old Khatmiya neighborhood

🎭 Highlights of the Day

The program featured:

  • Inspiring speeches and drama show by Nasaem Theatre Group, which creatively emphasized the importance of early detection and prevention of breast cancer.
  • An enlightening lecture by Dr. Israa Hamza-surgical specialist at Turkai Oncology Center, who demonstrated self-examination techniques and stressed the importance of consulting a doctor upon noticing any changes.
  • Distribution of gifts to children at the shelter, fostering a spirit of compassion and care.
  • A joint agreement to conduct future awareness sessions and voluntary screenings in collaboration with Turkai Center and the Health Promotion Directorate.
  • Ms. Salma Farag from SOS Sahel Sudan highlighted October Pink as a platform for solidarity and health education, commending the strong collaboration that made the event success.

Public Health Specialist Mr. Mohamed Qasim Yaqoub concluded by reminding attendees that October Pink is more than a campaign—it’s a community message to embed early detection into our culture and empower women with the knowledge that protects their lives and health.
