Bant Water Station Commissioned: A Step Toward water supply Sustainability for human Dignity
As part of its ongoing efforts to improve essential services for the vulnerable groups, SOS Sahel Sudan organized a celebration to handover and commissioning of Bant Water Station to supplying safe drinking water to the target people in Alkrama 1 IDPs Camp (Msna-Albasel) in Kassala, New Halfa, West Kassala, and Khashm Elgirba localities.
This milestone includes:
- Installation of two submersible pumps with discharge capacities of 15m3 and access to 20m3 for the two wells
- Installation of two solar systems for sustainable operation
- Construction of a 32 m³ GRP water tank to ease the water distribution
- Rehabilitated the pipeline from Bant water station to Alkrama 1 IDPs Camp, using HDPE pipes 200ML
- Ensured supply of 800 barrels of water/day to Akarma Camp (Msna-Albasel)
The upgrading of this water station is part of the WASH project funded by the Sudan Humanitarian Fund (SHF), aiming at:
- Increasing sustainable access to safe drinking water in sufficient quantity and quality for 149,000 people
- Improving access to sanitation services for 29,400 people
- Promote hygiene practices among 41,000 people across Kassala, New Halfa, West Kassala, and Khashm Elgirba localities
Why It Matters
Amid challenges like summer water shortages and the Hepatitis E outbreak in IDP camps, the Bant Water Station marks a vital step toward health, stability, and resilience for thousands of displaced and host community members.
Gratitude
This achievement was made possible through close coordination with HAC, WES, the Ministry of Health, local authorities, and the communities themselves.
