Strengthening Inclusive Partnerships for Smallholder Producers in Rain-fed Areas – White Nile State, Rabak Locality

Community: Al Jazeera Aba – 30 members – Tarabot Savings & Credit Women Group

As part of the Strengthening Inclusive Partnerships for Smallholder Producers in Rain-fed Areas project in White Nile State, SOS Sahel Sudan continues to support community-based financial structures that enhance resilience, promote self-reliance, and empower women.

During this August Tarabot Savings and Credit Women Group in Al Jazeera Aba successfully conducted its third procedural session following two earlier sessions focused on:

  • Understanding the concept of credit and lending
  • Developing an internal bylaw and establishing a functional structure for group management

Highlights of Today’s Procedural Session

The session covered essential operational skills, including:

  • Managing management including preparing minutes
  • Opening and handling the group’s savings box and securing the savings box
  • Membership and lending management
  • Documenting outcomes

The session recommended prioritizing Income Generating Activities (IAG) tailored for individual women.

Additional Groups Supported

The project also works with two other savings and credit groups:

  • Hajir Asalaya CommunityNahdat Hajir Asalaya Group
  • Al-Murabi’ CommunitiesBuzahrat Al-Murabi’ Group

Each group consists of 30 members and has received introductory training on the concept, structure, and purpose of savings and credit funds, aligned with the training sequence provided to the Tarabot Group in Al Jazeera Aba.

 

Three women’s groups have received institutional support and structured guidance from SOS Sahel. This assistance was designed to strengthen their organizational capacity, enhance leadership skills, and ensure that empowerment objectives are achieved.

He encouraged the women to raise their ambitions and become community role models, noting that society expects much from their leadership and commitment.
