Interventions Responding to the Cholera Outbreak in White Nile State

In collaboration with the State Ministry of Health and the Water and Environmental Sanitation (WES), SOS Sahel Sudan contributed to combat the cholera outbreak. This is being done through the Rapid Emergency Response project for those affected by the cholera epidemic, funded by the Sudan Humanitarian Fund (SHF), which targets Kosti, Rabak, and Al-Jabalin localities.
The project provides immediate interventions in water and sanitation for those living in infected areas. A representative from SOS Sahel Sudan pointed out that the organization is working diligently on an urgent response by supporting Rapid Response Teams (RRT), which work to track cholera cases, disinfect homes, and promote health awareness in the community.
SOS Sahel Sudan work focuses on monitoring water quality, where volunteers distribute chlorine, educate the community and workers at open water sources about the importance of water chlorination and measure water quality inside and outside the network. The organization provides a vehicle equipped with a loudspeaker for each locality, which enhances the effectiveness of the response.
SOS Sahel interventions includes cleaning campaigns and disposal of solid waste in Kosti and Rabak hospitals, providing soap, messages on posters to promote public health, rehabilitating water points, trucking water to the largest IDP centers in Goz Alsalam camp at rate of 160 barrels per day for 3 months, distributing water tanks/ jerry cans, chlorine and dignity kits for girls.
SOS Sahel Sudan affirms its strong commitment to reducing the impact of cholera on affected communities and calls on all actors to support humanitarian response efforts in White Nile State.
