From 24-28 November 2024, the senior management team of SOS Sahel Sudan, led by the Director General, attended a training workshop on Leadership Planning and Management Development. The training that took place in Nairobi, Kenya, stems from Sahel Sudan’s strategy that stands on promoting the performance of its staff in different fields, particularly that relevant to Sahel Sudan’s concern. The training is timely, as it coincides with the preparation process of developing a 5-year strategic (2025 – 2029) considering the current Sudan context. So, the senior management team (SMT) has decided to go for leadership training to be prepared for leading and managing the Organization’s strategies.
This training program was designed to help the participants develop their key leadership and management skills. It aims to help them excel in both leadership and management, by creating a positive and productive work environment. So, the training was tailored to achieve a set of objectives that include; enhancing understanding of the differences and similarities between Leading and Managing in building a successful team, developing communication skills to improve understanding and collaboration, mastering the art of teamwork to free up time for focusing on strategic issues; promote leadership and management strategies to ensure successful leaders and effective managers; to keep them updated with relevant work-related issues and trends; and motivate them and foster trust, respect, openness, and teamwork in the workplace.
By the end of the training course, the SOS Sahel team has outlined several key actions that mark the main outputs and recommendations for SOS Sahel’s future vision. These included but were not limited to the development of an operational plan for the implementation of the organization’s strategic objectives; continuing efforts to engage youth and women in leadership roles; and creating strategies to motivate staff, including reviewing gratuity, managing performance, and rewarding top performers. In addition, special consideration should be given to the current situation in Sudan and design an emergency response plan that aligns with ongoing development goals; develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for online operations, review the current management structure (organogram) for effectiveness, and prepare a communication plan for both internal and external stakeholders.
