The main activity of the project “Acute Crises Mechanism (ACM)” is to support 270 vulnerable IDP Households in Gathering centers in Dar-Eslam city with food items through a Voucher system. In collaboration with technical and IDPs committees developed criteria for selection and conducted introduction at gathering centers.
Finally, SOS Sahel succeeded in distributing food items to IDPs in the Dar-Elssalam Locality of Northern Darfur State on Friday 27th September 2024. SOS Sahel and its local partners provided food assistance. Since the outbreak of the war in April 2023, the Darfur region has seriously been affected, where the five states of Darfur have become a battle arena.
North Darfur has long been under fire and siege where access to basic needs mainly food has become problematic. Access to vulnerable people mainly IDPs in Darfur amid the unfolding war is not an easy process, however, SOS Sahel invested in its deep-rooted relation with local communities and different stakeholders to get access to IDPs in Dar-Elssalam Locality and deliver food. The intervention of SOS Sahel and its partners in this regard indicates the possibility of access to the war-affected communities in Darfur as long as there is a will, commitment, and loyalty to help needy people.
So, food distribution is one of the significant interventions done by SOS Sahel, within the framework of serving its respective communities. It is a part of the above-mentioned project, running in North Darfur State, and funded by Dutch Relief Alliance for six months. Most importantly, this is a starting point, where SOS Sahel will continue in the provision and distribution of food to different communities in Sudan, with special emphasis on war-affected areas in Darfur and Kordofan.
