The farmers’ field school is an effective method of training. It invests in farmers’ participation and practical interaction with the field. For the implementation progress of the SIPRA Project in the White Nile State of Sudan, SOS Sahel Sudan delivered a series of workshops and activities on Farmers’ fields -schools, and demonstration farms situation. These activities are designed to support the current agricultural season for smallholders’ farmers in the Rabak locality of White Nile State. Such activities targeted the rural communities in Assalaya, El Shariefia, Fangoga, Om-Dabakir, Abu-Farwa, El-Rawda, and El Rasrasah areas.

The training covered field topics through discussion and dialogue, with the full participation of the farmers, which provides an opportunity to learn by doing and enhance their agricultural knowledge, skills, and practices. This would promote farmers’ agricultural experience, and be more efficient in utilizing available resources. The school plays an effective role in developing the agricultural capacity of targeted communities by addressing the problems facing traditional rural production

These activities are expected to contribute to achieving the project’s outcomes, by ensuring sustainable increased production and income for smallholder producers mainly women; and by taking a more inclusive approach through partnerships, supply contracts, and value chain development with smallholders and agro-SMEs in rainfed areas.

The project targets the smallholders of rural communities mainly women.  It is been implemented by SOS Sahel as a member of the consortium that includes World Relief and is led by ZOA International.
